The Space Museum 4 - The Final Phase

God, some of the acting in this is really rum. It has been throughout, but for some reason it seemed even more obvious in this episode. To sum this up it ends up being a lot like The Sensorites but not quite as bad... Great first episode, followed by bad acting, a two faction storyline that feels almost pointless.. and.. well.. Not much else, really. Except for the fact that the "good" faction are going to destroy the museum and all it's exhibits.

Great. Destroying historical artifacts is always a sure sign you're on the right side isn't it. It's over now. I've seen it, and I never have to see it again.

FYI people: If you want people to care about your revolutionaries, show some evidence of them being oppressed. Don't get me wrong, the Morocks were bell ends with sticks up their arses, but I didn't see them being the monsters they were supposed to be.

The Space Museum 3 - The Search

This rapidly turned into "planet of the Middle Managers". At least there's some action this time, but the soft-serve revolution plot is really lame. Am I supposed to care about their revolution? They don't even explain what it's for.. why it needs to happen...

Not that it matters to Vicki, she just arms a bunch of revolutionaries without understanding their cause in an attempt to save her own hide. Yeah, nice one, love"

The Space Museum 2 - The Dimensions of Time

The promise of the first episode dissolved to nothing. Bad hairdos vs eyebrows and a dull chase around corridors. That said, the doctor outwitting the mind control machine was quite cool.

It's just a real shame that after such a spooky first episode filled with intrigue, it's followed up with the most generic slice of 60s Doctor Who I've seen.

In short, I'm starting to understand the "Meh" reputation this story has.

The Space Museum 1 - The Space Museum

Despite owning it on DVD I've never managed to watch The Space Museum, but I HAVE tried, and seemed to always find myself doing the dishes or in a different room, so it was with a mix of excitement and trepidation I sat down to watch this story. A story which received wisdom tells us is "meh".

However, my experience this time of this first episode is that it's a compelling start that sets up a an air of mystery extremely well, despite what seems to be an almost infinite amount of billyfluffs. The image of the TARDIS crew in an exhibit is really well done. The "science" and "explanations" are wonkier than an oval wheel but still... not a terrible start.

The Crusade 4 - The Warlords

Sadly, the recon I watched was a little on the low grade side. However, it's difficult to watch The Crusade unless you realize it's a product of it's time. Some of the characters are very different from what we historically know them to be now, and there's some really quite horrendously archetypal characterization, especially with the "honey and ants" sections. But of course, yet again, back in those days it wouldn't have been considered an issue.

The biggest problem this episode has is that it's missing... Fairly obvious really, but it's very much an action based and visual episode so that really doesn't help things along. When you have a missing episode full of sparkling dialogue it can survive a lack of visuals.

Sadly this isn't one, and as a result it's fairly difficult viewing.

The Crusade 3 - Wheel of Fortune

While it's well written, I have to admit the very "British" view of The Crusades is grating slightly. It was written back in the days where we thought we were always the good guys. And "good" King Richard... No. Purely as a piece of entertainment though it works very well.

The Crusade 2 - The Knight of Jaffa

Good old YouTube. David Whittaker's script pops well enough to work as an audio drama, the characters are interesting, well played and have clear motivations. It's good stuff.
